Observation is a fundamental part of my process. It is an active search for composition, light, and ultimately, expression.
With figure drawing, the act of observation is also revolutionary.
Faithful rendering requires observation in good faith. This is not to be taken for granted in a world that values power over empathy, individualism over community. Here, empathy is the price of admission for a drawing that reflects the spirit within every figure. That is my goal. By working towards it, I find that I expand my own capacity for empathy, and hopefully, my audience’s as well.
My work has been exhibited at the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale, FL; Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, NY; Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, Queens, NY; Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education, Bronx, NY; and FATVillage Projects, Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Past residencies include ACRE (Steuben, WI), Queens Council on the Arts, Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (Queens, NY), and Casita Maria (Bronx, NY), as well as membership in Civic Hall Labs’ accelerator program (NYC).
